JFK Memorial

JFK Memorial Forest, Jerusalem

2004

Then, in 2004 the impossible happened: our 23-year-old daughter Rachel intervened in a fight protecting a perfect stranger, and was fatally shot.

After Racheal’s death in 2004 I received a gift of a memorial tree planted at the JFK Memorial Forest in Jerusalem. After Janet’s estate was settled, I flew to Jerusalem in 2018. It was a powerful monument designed as a tall tree cut down in mid-life.

She was awarded the Governor General’s Medal of Bravery (2007), had a ceremonial circle of trees planted in her memory at the JFK Memorial Forest in Jerusalem in 2004, was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Vancouver Police, and lauded in a Globe & Mail editorial. She lived bravely every day of her life. “Dancing in Eternity” was written in her memory in 2005. (Please go to Dancing In Eternity through the menu for the complete sequence).
